A pool may well be a key ingredient of your “dream” home, however, there are a few things to keep in mind while planning one.

The first and foremost element to be considered is the underground rock structure. This is crucial for drawing up a reliable estimate of the digging costs. Presence of hard rock surfaces would require blasting, thereby, substantially increasing costs.

Secondly, one needs to decide on the type of pool one would like to install. There are broadly three types, namely, concrete, vinyl lined and fibre glass. The Riverina Fibre Glass Pools only the highest grades of vinyl ester resins and glass fibre products available in the manufacture of pools, thus making it a hassle free pool installation.

The advantage of concrete pools is that they can be constructed in any shape or size and can be easily remodelled.

Concrete pools are the strongest when compared to the other two types, even though the time taken for construction is much higher (ranging from 3-12 weeks). Vinyl pools, on the other hand, are available only in a few shapes. While vinyl pools can be constructed in fairly less time (1-3 weeks) they are a bit difficult to maintain as one needs to avoid use of sharp objects in the pool to avoid puncturing the vinyl wall. Given that fibre glass pools are pre-moulded and just need to be installed into the pit, these are the quickest to install. However, the available shapes and designs are quite limited.

The third key element to be taken into account is the kind of circulation system (a system which keeps the pool clean and sanitized) to install.

The fourth element which one needs to work out is the cost of the pool. This would be influenced by the nature of the underground rock structure (as discussed above), type of pool, size, circulation system and any accessories which you may want to install.

Since pools in residential area are subject to building regulations one needs to get the required approvals from the local government before initiating construction.

In addition it is also important to plan an appropriate siting of the pool on your property. Experts suggest that the pool should be sited such that it has enough sun to keep the pool warm and should be away from low lying areas to avoid flooding.
